RECYCLING PART III

Sometimes, the most messed up things in our kitchen are the glass and bottles which also mess up our mind on what should be done on them especially when they have no more lids. When they haven’t lids anymore, there’s no chance for us to use them as safe and clean storages. What can be done on them? Well, amidst the CampBlog in Pampanga, I viewed some videos on recycling and I happened to view a video about recycling our lidless glass jars and bottles.

Making a Flower vase out of Glass Bottles and Jars

We need:

  • Oven –cooking range with oven or even the small oven toaster can be used depending on how many crayons you will melt.
  • Potholder-
  • Old crayons- aside from the glass jars and bottles, these old crayons will also be recycled since it has
  • Clean glass jars and bottles-
  • Wax paper- make sure that the wax paper is fit enough to the tray
  • Tray- if you have no tray for the oven which is fit enough, try your “llanera” or that deep tray when you’re making cassava cake

Procedures:

1.)      Prepare all the materials needed.

2.)     Preheat oven.

3.)     Ready the tray with wax paper. Put the wax paper in the surface of the tray.

4.)     Place and spread the old crayons in the tray.

5.)     Place the tray with crayons inside the pre-heated oven. Wait until the crayons melt.

6.)     After the crayons were melted, take the tray out of the oven using the potholder and immediately roll the glass jars and bottles.

7.)     Let the glass jars and bottles dry.

8.)     Lastly, put some flowers inside it and place it in your center table to add life to your house’s ambience.

C2 BOTTLES ROCK!!

The above picture was IV- Emerald’s Christmas tree last year. Our class made it before our Christmas party. This showed a little bit of concern and resourcefulness because of the recycled C2 solo bottles which we collected in our school canteen. Our Christmas tree had undergone many revisions. In fact, we almost lost hope on its construction until my adviser and some of my classmates decided to ask help on their parents. And so, the result of our tiring and ramshackling revisions is the above picture which actually won as the Best Christmas Tree in Laboratory High School. The skeleton of the Christmas is a big bamboo shoot that supports the hard round host. Likewise, the host also supports and shapes the tree.

While the red C2 solo bottles represent the tree, the yellow C2 solo bottles represent the brightly shining stars. By the way, the red bottles are connected vertically by the use of a nylon string. The center bottom and the upper (the lid) part of the bottle were holed and then the string was inserted first in the bottom hole and after that, in the lid. The yellow bottles were formed into stars by the use of glue sticks.

Recycling Part 2..(-_-)

Simple recycling in our House

What’s the relationship between recycling and rainy days? Have an idea? Me, I have an idea and this idea is a little thing for you to practice in your house yet it will conserve consumption of water. We, in our house, collect rainwater to conserve energy and clean water. This rainwater is used in our comfort room (that water to flush in the bowl).

Aside from recycling rainwater, my youngest brother has also practiced the selling of recyclable materials when there’s someone who buys it. Common recyclable materials bought are bottles, paper, and plastics. By this, we can reduce throwing them and causing pollution and resource destruction and most of all, my brother can have his extra money.

Plastics

Plastics are one of the most leading non- biodegradable waste materials thrown enormously by humanity. It jeopardizes the lives of marine organisms. In fact, plastics are one of the leading reasons why dolphins live only in a short period of time on earth. They actually tend to eat plastics because they think it’s edible. So, to at least reduce the rate of dolphin and marine life jeopardy, let’s start recycling plastics.

In our house, we practice the reusing of plastic bags. Plastics can be washed and cleaned again to be used the next time you need it. This can also reduce buying plastics. There was actually another way of recycling it in a large volume but I don’t know it exactly. To give you an idea, (what I know is that) plastics are put into a melting machine. The by- product is a plasma- like material immediately put into molders of different size. This substance gradually becomes hard and can be made into blocks (blocks for house construction) and figurines. Styrofoams are also included in the melting process.

Recycle your Paper..

How to Make Your Own Recycled Paper

Recycled paper can be made from old newspaper. Recycling paper uses cellulose (plant fibers) over and over again, it uses less electricity, less water, a lot less pollution, and it saves trees from being cut down! You will need:

  • a food processor or an old blender
  • an electric iron
  • an old wire hanger
  • an old pair of panty hose
  • newspaper or other paper, torn into 2-inch squares
  • white glue
  • water
  • an insect screen or strainer (optional)
  • food coloring (optional)
  • a big sink or tub filled with 4 inches of water

Make sure you have a place to work where you can make a big mess!
1.)Make a frame out of the coat hanger. You’ll need a frame for each piece of paper you make. Stretch the hanger and bend it into a rectangle/square shape. Take one leg of the panty hose and stretch it carefully over the hanger frame. Make sure it is tight and flat.
2.)Put a handful of the torn up paper and some water into the food processor or blender. Blend the mixture on high until it becomes mushy. Keep adding paper and water until you have a big gray blob. You may have to add a little more water to keep things moving smoothly. Keep the food processor on until all the paper has disappeared. Then leave it on for 2 minutes.

For some color, add a handful of brown or red onion skin (not the onion itself, just the papery outer skin).
3.)Put 2 tablespoons of white glue in the sink water and add all of the paper pulp you just made. Mix it really well. Use your hands.
4.)Scoop the frame to the bottom of the sink, then lift it slowly. (Count to 20 slowly while you are lifting.) Let the water drain out for about a minute.
5.)Hang the frames on a clothesline or put them out in the sun. Wait until they are completely dry with no dampness at all. You can then gently peel off the paper.
6.)Use the iron, set on the hottest setting, to steam out your paper. You can keep making paper until the pulp is all strained out of the sink. Mix up the sink every time you make a new piece.

Try other things like using in insect screen over a wood frame, or a strainer instead of the pantyhose and hanger. Try adding lots of food coloring, for colored paper, or try adding lint or leaves to the food processor. Your paper will have an interesting texture.

Making your own paper can be fun, and it’s a great way to re-use old paper. You can recycle all kinds of paper for re-use.

Processes of Recycling

Processes of recyling includes collection and sorting.Others are cost-benefit analysis, and trades in recyclates. Collection includes “drop-off centres”, “buy-back centres” and “curbside collection”. This is the putting of all the collected materials into the designated area.Sorting is the grouping of all collected materials to meet the recycling standards. Cost benefit analysis is a finding about the benefits of a recycled material in terms of helping humans in the prevention of global warming and pollutions. The last which is the trade of recyclates is a process of trading the materials to other country. Simple recycling can be made possible even without the last two process.

read more on.. what’ s up earth!!

As global warming invades the Earth, everything in it will be affected. First and foremost, there are critical effects on humanity. We humans, who are doing so many rude things on Earth is deserving for an actual prize.Even the animals and plants, the country’ s economic, educational, social, natural or environmental, technological and sociological development will have the global warming effect.

This video tells us that global warming is the result of human activities like consumption of fossil fuels and energy. Consequently, there came the greenhouse effect which is the result of humanity’ s greenhouse gasses’ consumption with the use of cars’ batteries and the likes.

This video also tells us that as long as industrialized nations increasingly consume energy and fossil fuels, concentration of greenhouse effect in the atmosphere will rise 2- 10 degrees Fahrenheit at the end of the century.

Health is the major target of global warming on humanity. Because of the unusual heating, people in the world will suffer sickness. Those poor nations which can’t recover easily on global warming effects… How will they cope up in this kind of national problem? They’ ll only become poorer than before. And billions of people will die. Is the Philippines one of those poor nation? Sure this will be a big commotion and will affect other countries.

Who says there’ s no effect on economic growth? Working people will not be able to work until the global warming effect didn’t seize them. Of course, the resulting economy is a “bankrupted” one because of the decrease in labor and technological capability.

Imagine…Even worst things already happening right now..The Global Warming Effects are already in connivance with each other to destruct the Earth. IMAGINE…

Bottles..

This video is a bit frightening. Imagine bottles in your trash can moves just for them to be recycled?! After all, this tells us that we should also recycle them…

Plastics..

This video advocates the recycling of plastics which spoils the landfills with their ability to live thousands of years. But recycling them and retrieving them in some grocery store with plastic recycling system would help Earth to convert a landfill into an agricultural or a productive area.

Recycling the Green Eaters..(-_-)

Though we can’ t really stop, we can at least prevent global warming and other drastic occurrences. By the use of recycling, we can eliminate the Green Eaters or those materials that are making our Earth morbid with pollutions.

Here are some of the Green Eaters:

  • Papersreduced into pulp and mix with pulp of newly-harvested wood
  • Bottles
  • Plastics-
  • Metals -
  • Concrete- Put through a crushing machine together with asphalt, bricks and rocks
  • Batteries-
  • Biodegradable waste- composting
  • Clothing- clothing swap
  • Ferrous metal- remelted via steelwork;
  • Non- ferrous- aluminium recycling
  • Glass-shredded and ground by a smelter; mix in a melting furnace to be molded to make new
  • Textile- used to make industrial wiping clothes and in paper manufacture; reused in for weaving and knitting; for mattress production;to fill material for car insulation, roofing felts, loudspeaker cones, panel linings and furniture padding.
  • Timber- recycled timber for construction product in raising industry and consumer awareness

Getting Familiar With Recycling..(-_-)

If animals can recycle, so can WE.” This is very obvious and the targets are all the people living on Earth.

Recycling is the process of utilizing already- used materials and products to prevent too much energy consumption, rate of production, and carbon dioxide emission. RECYCLING is also one of the means of lessening the environment’s air, water, and land pollutions. If we are environmentally aware of the Earth’ s condition, we will be able to do different kinds of recyclings: from foods to cellphones. But sad to say that though it is familiar, it hasn’t been given enough awareness by humans. As for me, recycling, this day, should be implemented in all places for us to be productive and for Earth to be saved.

Recycling is just waiting for our earnest action so let’ s recycle now.
